Sixty competitors and a number of spectators turned up for the event. Bowling started just after 2 p.m. with eleven mats in use. O'Neill from Tyrrellspass were joined by Liam Connaughton and Martin Gaynor from Streete. Mick Lynch ousted Martin Gaynor whilst Liam Connaughton edged out Ger. O'Neill to set up the dream final. Mick last won this title in 2010. Well done to all the competitors who participated and made this such a successful event. A special word of thanks to Catherine, Phyllis and Lily who helped with the catering. The club is running the Christmas Doubles competition and hope to have it completed next week. Halloween Fancy Dress Party: - HALLOWEEN Fancy Dress party and disco in Streete Parish Park last Sunday evening week hosted by our local football club Inny FC was a huge success. It was great to see so many young people out enjoying the Halloween treats on offer, along with the fun the little ones had running around and dancing to the sounds of the upbeat disco music in the “haunted” surrounds of the Parish Park. As promised it was a frightful night of fun and frolics along with fantastic entertainment. I’m sure you will all agree it did not disappoint. On behalf of the Parish Park committee we would like to thank Inny Football Club and those who helped the club on the day. The club put in a lot of hard work decorating the hall, putting up the decorations and setting the scene to make it an enjoyable occasion for all to enjoy. Inny FC hopes to have another fun filled evening before Christmas to bring in funds to support the community games.

BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS: - The weather was perfect for the Ramblers weekend away in Carlow from Friday, 19th October 2018. The bright sunshine during the walk along the River Barrow from Graiguenamanagh to St. Mullins and back on Saturday highlighted the magnificent autumn colours of the trees in the woodlands covering the hills on each side of the river. Milford to Leighlinbridge and back on Sunday was a shorter walk but also very enjoyable. Some of the group went for a short walk along the riverbank near the hotel on Monday morning in dead calm weather with the riverside trees reflected in the mirror-smooth water.
Many thanks to the staff of the Talbot Hotel in Carlow for the great service and wonderful food. A special thank you to the Ramblers Chair Patricia Bruton who organised the trip with her usual great efficiency.
On Sunday 4 November 2018 the Ramblers will visit Ballinamuck for a walk led by Marian Carty. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at 2pm (sharp, please), in the car park beside the Community Centre in Ballinamuck.

SOCIAL DANCE: - on Friday night last was once again a very enjoyable night in Streete Parish Park Centre when music was provided by Philip English from County Kildare.  It was heartening to see an increase in numbers and we enjoyed meeting up with a group of tourists from Holland who were brought along by well known and popular music entrepreneur, Ray Dolan from Mullingar.  These people were anxious to see what social dancing was, so Kevin Brady was in contact with Ray and as they say the rest is history.  We received much appreciation from the tourists and we thank Ray for including us on Face book.  Keep an eye on these notes for future dates, the next of which is Friday night, 16th November when as always Mary O’Connor and Pat Kelly will supply their renowned style of tunes to guarantee you stay on the dance floor  all night.  On admission each night everyone receives a free raffle ticket and supper is served compliments of the organisers.  We thank the ladies from the office, Anne Creamer and Mary McBrien with help from caretaker, Gerry O’Neill who made fresh sandwiches, cakes, tea, coffee etc.  Admission to dance is only €10 and all are welcome.  If any group would like to come along just contact Kevin 087 1375222 in advance, so we can be organised or let Mary or Anne know in the office 043 6685926.  Dates and names for future dances available on request.

Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers had a splendid walk in Deerpark forest on the outskirts of Virginia, County Cavan and beside Lough Ramor on Sunday 14 October 2018. The beautiful calm weather tempted a few yachts and anglers boats out onto the Lough with swans at the waters' edge. There was even birdsong as the group followed the trails through the forest where many of the trees were clad in autumn colours. Many thanks to Joe Masterson who researched and led the walk.
On Sunday 28 October the Ramblers will sample autumn in Mullaghmeen Forest on a walk led by Joe Masterson. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and pause outside the Town and Country pub in Castlepollard at 1.40pm before moving on to start the walk at 2pm in Mullaghmeen.
New members are always welcome. For details phone Philip at 087 7753612 or Nini at 086 8754411

WALKING:  it is worth while taking a trip around Streete Parish Park to see the great job done with diggers by Seamus Sullivan which cleaned up the triangle piece of land at the bottom corner of the walkway – a great improvement to the Park, so why not go for a walk and see the improvement yourself.

BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS: - The Ramblers travelled to Dublin on Sunday 7 October 2018 for a walk round the Glenasmole Reservoirs near Bohernabreena. The low level of water in the reservoirs was immediately noticeable with large stony and grassy areas which would normally be covered now above the water level. There was no shortage of 'mellow fruitfulness' on the bushes beside the trail, though, with lots of blackberries, rose hips and hazel nuts ready to be gathered. Unfortunately there was also a lot of invasive Japanese knotweed in many places.
Thank you to Mary McHugh and her brother Francis who organised the day, to Salmon's Coaches of Castlepollard and their driver Martin Fagan and to the staff in the wonderful clubhouse at the Thomas Davis GAA Club who served tasty warm scones, tea and coffee before the walk.
Next weekend the Ramblers will meet in the Talbot Hotel in Carlow for their weekend away from Friday 19 October to Monday 22 October 2018.
New members are always welcome. For details phone Philip at 087 7753612 or Nini at 086 8754411.
