Sympathy

we extend our sincere sympathy to the extended Reilly family, Balloo on the death of Paddy Reilly at Our Lady’s Manor, Edgeworthstown on Sunday, 6th July. Paddy was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary, daughter, Dympna and grandson, Scott.    He is sadly missed by his sons, Gerry, Padraig, Eamon and Aidan, daughters in law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, neighbours and a large circle of friends.  May he rest in peace.

His removal took place to St. Mary’s Church, Boherquilll for his Funeral Mass followed by burial in St. Fintan’s cemetery, Boherquill on Wednesday morning, 9th July.  Paddy was a very popular and  respected Senior Citizen of the community who in his younger days was a leading figure in all types of sports in our parish including football, hurling, community games and all that was good for  the youth, as was well talked about at his Funeral Mass.  Paddy will be missed by his son in law and next door neighbour, Joe Coyle whom we also offer our condolences to.

Sad Day

We awakened on Thursday morning last to hear sad news on radio, starting with the death of Brendan Grace entertainer and comedian and also well-known Radio personality and political commentator, Noel Whelan.  May they both rest in peace.  Following this announcement the new of the loss of approximately 150 jobs between the Power Station and Bord Na Móna Mount Dillion, Lanesboro.

This will affect Coolnagun Bog in this parish as milled peat from here is brought by road to Lanesboro.  Not good news for Lanesboro and the Midlands, but hopefully the powers that be will be able to resolve the situation.

Boherquill Ramblers

The weather on Sunday 7 July 2019 was ideal for the Ramblers walk from Jonathan Swift Park beside Lough Ennell to Dysart along the Westmeath Way and back on a loop. The route included bog track and field’s where the walkers were watched by several herds of cattle who were also probably enjoying the pleasures of the countryside in high summer.  Thank you to Eileen Moreton and Mary McHugh who checked and led the walk.

The Ramblers Annual Family Day will be held in Lough Boora Discovery Park on Sunday 21 July 2019. Cars will leave Boherquill at 10am and will be pooled at 10.30am  in the car park beside the Fire Station in Mullingar before moving on to arrive in Boora at 11.30am. There will be a range of activities including a guided 90 minute walk suitable for children with the Fairy Avenue and Maze, bicycle rides and, of course, a picnic.

A longer walk for adults will include the Sculpture Park, wetland areas and the Mesolithic site where some of the oldest traces of human habitation in Ireland have been found.

New members and new walks are always welcome. For details phone Philip at 087 7753612 or Nini at 086 8754411.  See boherquillramblers.ie
