Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers had a short walk of their own in Fore on Sunday 26 May 2019 before joining the Green Ribbon walk promoting mental health and sponsored by the IFA. There was a very good turn-out of Ramblers and many others who joined the walk, first visiting the ruins of Fore Abbey. The group then followed the 3km Nellie and Nancy loop walk on the lower slopes of the Ben of Fore, just outside the village.

The route is named after Nancy McDermott and Nellie Dunne, two local women who walked the path together as children and young women.  Thank you to Jane O'Reilly of Jane's Coffee Shop in Fore and all who helped to organise the walk and also to Jane's husband PJ who led the walk and passed on his knowledge of the history of the abbey to the walkers.

On Sunday 9 June 2019 the Ramblers will walk in Edenmore Bog. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at 2pm at the car park at the start of the Edenmore Bog walk. To get to the start turn right at the Red Cow roundabout on the Longford bypass  towards Drumlish and Arvagh; drive past the left turn to Ballinamuck; after a little over 1km turn right onto the L 50581 signed ‘National Looped Walk Trailhead’, the car park is 1km up the road, on the left. Cars will be pooled here to go to the start of the walk.

New members and new walks are always welcome. For details phone Philip at 087 7753612 or Nini at 086 8754411.See boherquillramblers.ie
