Streete & District Notes

Speed control in Streete Village: Representations were made to the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District council chamber meeting recently, concerning the Traffic Calming Measure for Streete Village. I have highlighted in the past that traffic is still an issue for the residents in Streete, A point was made that even after successfully having Digital Speed Signs Installed. Speed through the village remains an issue, Requests have been made for further traffic calming measures to be installed. Westmeath County Council's reply is. There are no plans or funding for additional traffic calming measures at this location, and Council will flag the issue with Gardaí.
Santa Clause is coming to Streete: I Just got a very important phone call from Mrs Santa to say that Santa Clause and his elves will make a stop off at Streete Parish Park on Saturday evening from 5.30 till 7 pm. Santa will collect the children's letters, wishes and dreams from the magic postbox at the parish park. So boys and girls it's not too late to ask Santa for a late request or a little surprise for someone special. Santa is also bringing his PR woman, so you can have a photo taken with him and emailed to you later. This is a free outdoor event so please come prepared for the weather and darkness and please follow instructions from the carpark elves.
Carpark Stewarts and helpers Needed: The parish Park committee ask if anyone can please help out on Wednesday, December 28th from 5 pm for the fairy light tractor run. We are grateful for your help and support at these special events.
Monster Bingo Monday Night 19th at 8.30: Christmas special Monster Bingo with €5000 in prize money. Yes, you have read this right €5000 to be won throughout the night. The parish Park committee would like to thank you for your support over the past year and welcome you to join us in our hall or online to play our big money bingo on Monday 19th. Community Alert: Gardaí ask you to be highly vigilant at this present time of year and keep an eye out for any suspicious vehicles around the area. They also ask you to think twice before buying Christmas log candles from callers, these logs are unstable and can tip over easily with a lighted candle, which may cause harm or start a fire. REMINDER: Streete Vintage Club MEMBERSHIP NOW DUE: It’s that time of year again and although 2022 was not a year for vintage shows or road runs, we can only hope next year will prove a better year all-round. Your membership is vital to the club and we encourage all with an interest in classic cars, bikes, machinery or even memorabilia to sign up and be part of an expanding, forward-looking and ever-developing club. You don’t have to own a vehicle to be a member we welcome people or families who just want to support our club. Membership for the year is only €30 you can also add on your partner for an extra €20 for this you will receive a member’s badge and an annual full-colour Vintage News magazine through the post with lots of interesting features of events throughout the year and a handy event diary to keep you in touch with upcoming shows and events. Your membership number will also give you huge discounts on vintage insurance through the Irish Vintage Society on classic cars, bikes, and machinery along with members’ liability insurance. Streete Vintage show will run on Sunday 25th of June, so keep the date in your diary. Walking Track Membership: It's that time of year again. The Committee would like to thank everyone who paid for membership for the past number of years and would like to remind you that your membership is now due for renewal in January. New member application forms can be found in the entrance hall of the Parish Park or by calling into the office upstairs Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday or Friday from 10 am until 1.30 pm. Single membership is €20, and a family is €30. We also remind you this would make a great Christmas present to someone. Gift vouchers are available from the office. please ask any of the Committee or call Kevin 087 1375222. All cheques made payable to Streete Parish Park.
Fairy Light Tractor Run Wednesday 28th: The run is in aid of St Christophers Edgeworthstown branch. The convoy will set off from Streete Parish Park around 6 p.m. The participants will follow a speed-controlled management vehicle which set the pace along the well-organised 10 Km route before the incredible sight will make its way back to Streete Parish Park. Registration fee €20 Strict safety rules apply to everyone, refreshments on return The run was a fantastic success last year. The Streete Bowls Club: The final of the Christmas doubles competition was held on Tuesday night. The competitors were Seamus Moran and Kevin Sheedy who had overcome Bill Bennett and Michael Fleming in the semi-final. They were against Paul Flood and Micheál Gillen who had defeated Jimmy Kelly and Andy Boyle when they met in the other semi-final. The final was a thriller in which the lead changed several times. Eventually, Paul and Micheál emerged victorious. Well done lads! The club held their Christmas party night in the Streete Complex last Saturday night. Catering was by Dial a Chef. Everyone had a most enjoyable night. We would like to wish all bowlers and their families a very happy and peaceful Christmas. Looking forward to seeing everyone in the New Year. New and lapsed members are welcome. Join us on Tuesday nights in the Sports complex Streete for a great night's fun. New and lapsed members are very welcome to join the club. Bowls is a relaxing sport anyone can play, regardless of age or ability, we welcome interested people to come and watch the game at Streete Parish Park on Tuesday nights at 8 o'clock. Instructions for newcomers are given by experienced club members, all are welcome.
SOCIAL DANCE: Come out and enjoy a great night of Social Dancing in Streete Parish Park on Friday, the 30th with music by the ever popular, Matt Leavy, with the usual complimentary supper and a free raffle. Meet many new faces, and make new friends while enjoying the night. Dancing from 9.30 p.m.-11.30 with admission €10.

St James’s Church Notes, Streete, The School Carol Service will take place on the 19th in St Johns Church Edgeworthstown at 1 Pm, all welcome. We remind you the annual Christmas lantern walk will take place on December 23rd at 5 pm from St John’s Church Longford, through the Mall and Main St and conclude at the Methodist Church car park. Everyone is invited to attend, we will sing carols and enjoy a friendly chat with some warm refreshments. it would be lovely to see the community coming together at this special time of year. Please bring your own Lantern. Christmas Eve, Service and Communion: St Johns Church Edgeworthstown at 8.30 Pm and St Johns Church Ballinalee at 10 pm. Church Notes: Christmas Masses & Adoration this week Streete/Rathowen: This coming Sunday is the fifth Sunday in the Advent calendar At Christmas, we celebrate the Incarnation, the birth of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Christmas Mass Times: Christmas Eve Boherquill at 6.30 Pm and Christmas Morning Rathowen at 10 am. Mass this week Tuesday, Boherquill 9.30 Am. Wednesday Rathowen 9.30 Am Thursday, Rathowen 9.30 Am, adoration 10 to 10.30 Friday Boherquill 8 pm. Adoration 7 – 8 pm. This Thursday, the feast of the immaculate conception a Holy day of obligation mass for the day Wednesday Boherquill at 8 Pm and Rathowen Thursday10 am, Confessions for Christmas: will be heard on December Tuesday 20th in Rathowen at 7 pm and Boherquill at 8 Pm.

Weekly Offertory Collection Enveloplops: New boxes of offertory envelopes are ready for collection in both churches. It is hoped every home in the parish will offer some weekly contributions to support Diocesean ministries and the necessary repairs and upkeep of both churches in Rathowen and Boherquill. A sincere word of thanks to all who continue to support and help out throughout the year. Should any house be overlooked with envelopes please contact a Pastoral Council Member or Fr, Pierre on 087 6960542
Rosary continues: Rathowen, every Tuesday at 7 pm and Boherquill every Thursday at 7 Pm.
Men’s Prayer Group: Every Monday in the church in Boherquill at 8 pm. New participants are always most welcome to join us and receive the support of other men in their prayers and personal life. I ask you to pray for good intentions for friends and family over the festive season.
