Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers met for their walk in Ballynacargy on Sunday 25 October 2026. There was a little rain before the walk, but it brightened up and the wind gradually lessened to leave a beautiful afternoon for the out and back walk west along the Royal Canal towards Abbeyshrule. The water level was very high in the canal with just one lonely-looking swan out on the water watching the walkers passing by.

Thank you to Patricia for the buns and Sheevaun for the chocolate treats after the walk. On Sunday 8 November 2026 the Ramblers will meet at 2pm at the Community Centre in Multyfarnham for a walk out to Donore beside Lough , returning via a loop with a shorter option. See boherquillramblers.ie for more information.

Streete & District Heritage Society

Streete & District Heritage Society is a group of like-minded people with a shared love of our local history. Our aim is to record the story of our parish townland by townland – its people, homes, families, and the journeys of those who left Streete for new lives around the world. We want to map the heritage remembered by local people: old field names, wells, gates, forges, Mass paths, hedge schools, old roads, ruins and forgotten places, along with the stories attached to them.

We also hope to reconnect old homesteads and families with our local cemeteries, including burial places where no headstone remains, creating a simple searchable grave and plot finder. Above all, we want to preserve the knowledge held in our community before it is lost – ensuring every townland, every family and every story has its place in the history of Streete. We are asking people of all ages to get involved.

Become an ambassador for your townland, family or particular area of interest and help us uncover and preserve its story. We would especially love to hear from people who have left the parish but still call Streete home at heart. Wherever in the world you may be, you can still be part of preserving the story of where you came from.

To get involved or find out more, please contact Kevin on (087) 137 5222. Or email kbrady1964@gmail.com

Parish Park Community Centre Notes

Tenders For All Weather Astro-Turf Pitch

We are delighted to report that planning permission for our new all-weather Astro-Turf pitch is now in its final stages. This exciting development will include ball-stop netting, floodlighting, drainage, a rainwater harvesting control system and access pathways. The tendering process is very complex and requires a lot of detail in the process. We have received an excellent response, reflecting strong interest in the project.

We expect to set a deadline in the coming weeks for the submission of final tenders, allowing us to move forward with the next stage of development, subject to planning approval. We would like to sincerely thank our local representatives for their valuable letters of support, as well as the wider community for the overwhelming encouragement and support shown for this important project.

Looking ahead, future phases of development will include consideration of a new playground, improvements to the existing walking track, new facilities at the community centre, community garden, community support buildings for a community men and women’s shed and the development of a new running track.

These exciting plans represent another significant step in enhancing our facilities and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for the entire community to enjoy for generations to come.
