STREETE & DISTRICT NOTES

DEATH: -   It is with profound sorrow and sadness that I report
the sad and unexpected death of Tom Blessington, Lisryan whose death took place last Friday night at his home.  As these notes go to press no
further details or arrangements are available until next week’s notes in this paper. Tom was well known and respected by our vintage club embers due to his long involvement   in Streete Parish Park Vintage club. We all offer our deepest sympathy to the extended Blessington family. May Tom rest in peace.

BLESSING: - please note, if interested the blessing of cars will take place after the 8p.m. Mass in Rathowen on Saturday, 21st July and in Boherquill after 11a.m. Mass in Boherquill, Sunday, 22nd July.

BASKETBALL: - Streete Warriors Basketball Summer Camp takes place in the Parish Park Centre, Streete from 7th to 10th August and the cost to join is €60.  There is a poster in the Centre and also you can look at facebook.  Any specific details please contract Teresa Daly.   As in previous years this will be a most enjoyable and well supervised camp.

SOCIAL DANCING: - takes place in Streete Parish Park Centre this Friday night, 20th July when music will be supplied by David Kiernan 10p.m.-12.30.  Admission is €10 and includes a free raffle and supper.   We ask for your support and assure all a very enjoyable night with first class facilities available as well as supervised car parking by our modern closed circuit T.V. system.

FLOWERS: - the Centre looks extremely good at the moment and great credit to the voluntary care from Mary, Anne, Marian and Gerry to the hanging baskets and window boxes, which give a great selection of colour at the moment.

LOTTO/BINGO: - takes place in Streete Parish Park Community Centre.  Bingo at 8.30p.m. on Monday nights and Lotto during bingo every second Monday night when great prizes are on offer.  This is what helps fund our Centre and Sports Complex.  It is amazing the amount of use our Centre gets especially this fine weather with outdoor games as can be seen any day you pass.  We ask, especially parents support this great Complex and the volunteers who look after it by purchasing a lotto envelope when you see one, it is only €2 for a line, €5 for 3 lines and an annual envelope to make sure you are in each weeks draw for the year is available  for €50.  Envelopes available in the shop in Streete, at bingo or if any problem phone Brian 086 2596656.  Completed envelopes can be posted in the letterbox in the centre entrance door.

Boherquill Ramblers: - The Ramblers met in Ballinamuck on Sunday 8 July 2018 for a shorter walk than originally planned because of the expected very hot weather. The day turned out to be cooler than forecast and the new walk which followed quiet side roads was very pleasant. Marian Carthy, the leader for the day, had arranged a picnic near the end of the walk at Johnny's Cottage, a small thatched cottage and garden restored by the local community. Marian's fruit cake and apple tart went down very well with a cup of tea and an assortment of biscuits from other walkers. Many thanks to Marian for leading the walk and providing the goodies at Johnny's.
On Sunday 22 July the Ramblers will meet at Mary Lynch's pub just off the N4 near Mullingar for a walk beside the Royal Canal. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at Mary Lynch's at 2pm.
