STREETE & DISTRICT NOTES

DEATH:   - as mentioned last week in these notes the death of Tom Blessington, Lisryan in this parish took place suddenly and unexpected at his home on Friday night, 20th of last week.  Tom was predeceased by his wife, Mary, Brother Eugene and Sister, Margaret.  We offer sincere sympathy to his heartbroken daughter, Orla and son, Colin, his brothers Michael and Declan, Sisters Marie and Bridget, nieces, nephews, neighbours, extended family and a wide circle of friends.  Tom’s Funeral Mass took place in St. Mary’s Church, Boherquill where Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Nigel Charles P.P.  and Fr. Simon Cadam, P.P. Granard.  Tom’s removal to the church was accompanied by a Guard of Honour from his very many friends and vintage clubs that he was associated with.  Tom was laid to rest with his wife, Mary in St. Fintan’s cemetery, Boherquill.  May he rest in peace.  Tom was very well known and respected having had a lifetime association with the family business, Rhyne Rock.

BASKETBALL: - summer camp organised by Streete Warriors Club takes place in Streete Parish Park Sports Complex from 7th-10th of August and the cost to join is €60.  Details on a poster in the centre or see facebook.  For any further details please phone Teresa Daly.  This will be a very well organised and supervised camp.   Sadly summer is marching on and I advise anyone wishing to join and take part to contact Teresa A.S.A.P.

LOTTO/BINGO: - takes place in Streete Parish Park Community Centre.  Bingo at 8.30p.m. on Monday nights and Lotto during bingo every second Monday night when great prizes are on offer.  This is what helps fund our Centre and Sports Complex.  It is amazing the amount of use our Centre gets especially this fine weather with outdoor games as can be seen any day you pass.  We ask, especially parents support this great Complex and the volunteers who look after it by purchasing a lotto envelope when you see one, it is only €2 for a line, €5 for 3 lines and an annual envelope to make sure you are in each weeks draw for the year is available  for €50.  Envelopes available in the shop in Streete, at bingo or if any problem phone Brian 086 2596656.  Completed envelopes can be posted in the letterbox in the centre entrance door. “If you’re not in you can’t win”.  It could be you this week!

Streete Wildlife Club: - would like to offer its sincere sympathy to the Blessington family Lisryan on the recent death of Tom Blessington. May he rest in peace.

BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS: - The Ramblers walked the Westmeath Way from Jonathan Swift Park at Lilliput to Dysart on Sunday 15 July 2018 with a little light rain and a couple of over-grown stiles to add interest on the way. The road walk back to Lilliput was much easier; wild raspberries were picked and rain stopped before the cup of tea back near Lough Ennell.
James and Marita MacNerney have sent us the following directions for our last walk before the August break:  Edenmore Bog walk on 29th July 2018.  Meet on Drumlish road after petrol station at Red Cow roundabout, Longford at 1.30 pm.  Drive through Drumlish to Gaigue crossroads and turn right for Ballinalee.  At next crossroads turn left to Aughnacliffe and Glenview Lounge is a short distance up hill on the left. The walk will commence from there at 2.00 pm.  There will be refreshments in the Glenview Lounge after the walk.  The walk is approximately 9 km and is part road and on bog and forest passes.  Please take special note of this earlier than usual start.
