Sympathy
It is with great regret that I report the death following a long illness bravely bourne by Jim Phelan, Publican Streete Village on 25th April in a Dublin Hospital. Jim is deeply regretted by his brother, Eamon, Sisters Margaret, Lena, Nancy, Jackie and Mary, nieces, nephews, and extended family, his staff, customers and all who knew him in this parish and district.
Jim’s body reposed at his home in Fore on Friday, 26th and Saturday, 27th. His funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Feichins Church, Fore on Sunday, 28th with burial afterwards in St. Colmcille’s cemetery, Swords, Co. Dublin. Jim will be sadly missed by all knew him. May he rest in peace.
Death
We offer sincere sympathy to Marian, wife of Mick Seery, Joanstown, Rathowen who died on April, 23rd at the General Hospital, Mullingar. He is survived by his wife Marian, son Michael, daughter Anne Marie, sisters in law, Marcella Finnan and Ann Matthews extended family neighbours and friends. His Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Rathowen on Thursday morning last with burial in Rathaspic Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
Sports Complex
Streete Parish Park Complex had one of the busiest weeks last week due to School holidays. It proves how important this facility is, as we even had youth from the U.K. who travelled here to Streete to compete at different levels of sport both indoors and outdoors. Great credit is due to the complete Parish Park staff as well as some voluntary workers. – A big thank you to all concerned! The Parish Park committee purchased a new special Kubota lawnmower suitable for large areas such as pitches, grounds etc. This machine will help keep the place in pristine condition. Support to our bingo makes this possible, thank you.
Pickleball
Congratulations go to Maura Sullivan who came second in the All Ireland Pickle ball senior ladies doubles competition held in Multyfarnham last weekend. This sport which originally started in America has become a very popular senior sport in Ireland. Well done Maura!
Fund Raising Bingo
The Streete Parish Park committee would like to thank the following people who supported the fund raising bingo on Monday, 22nd April for St. Mary’s Church Building Fund, Boherquill - Coolamber I.C.A. for their excellent cakes and jams, Joe Coyle, Lisryan for his sponsor of confectionary and the ladies who made those apple tarts – they were something special. And last, but not least a special thanks to the people of the parish and beyond who turned out in great numbers to support the event.

Launch

Drop In Morning
Next Drop in active retirement morning 11am until 12.30pm Thursday May, 2nd. It is great to see our new drop coffee morning is proving a good success. All welcome.
Streete Bowls
The Longford /Westmeath League and the Basil Sullivan Cup competition are now completed. Congratulations to a very successful Ardagh A team on winning the double. We have finished our own singles competition. On Tuesday night last Pat Purcell and Thomas Sullivan went head to head in the first semi-final with Pat coming out on top. In the other semi-final we had a thrilling match between Sam Donaghy and Mick Turner with Mick winning with his last bowl.
In the ensuing final, Pat raced into an early lead. Despite Mick's best efforts he was unable to catch him. Well done Pat on winning your first trophy with the Streete club! We are now playing the club's doubles competition at the moment and we should be at the semi-final stage by next week. New and lapsed members are always welcome at the club.
Boherquill Ramblers
The Ramblers did not meet on Easter Sunday, 21 April 2019. Their next walk will be on Sunday 5 May 2019 when the Ramblers will meet at Glen School near Edgeworthstown for a walk to Glen Lough and back which will start at 2pm sharp. The walk is to raise funds for St Christopher's Services, who serve the intellectually disabled in the midlands, so please bring a donation for this most deserving cause.
The Boherquill Ramblers 2019 Walking Festival will be held on the weekend of 10 May, 2019. It will open on Friday, 10 May with a walk in the grounds of Tullynally Castle near Castlepollard. Registration at 6.30pm at the car park outside the castle courtyard and the walk will begin at 7pm. There will be tea and scones in the Castle Tea Rooms after the walk.
There will be a 10km walk in Mullaghmeen Forest on Saturday with registration at the Hotel Castlepollard at 10am and the walk will begin in Mullaghmeen at 11am. In case some don’t know this is the largest planted beech forest in Europe and well worth a visit. Please bring a packed lunch.
The Festival will close with a walk starting at 11am in Fore on Sunday 12 May, following registration at Jane's Coffee Shop in Fore at 10.30am.
Please bring a packed lunch. Walking boots and a hi-vis vest should be worn. No dogs are allowed. Registration will be €10 each day on Friday and Saturday and €20 on Sunday (€30 for a family) or €30 for all three walks. All are welcome.
