Daffodil Day

Janet Butler and her team would like to thank everyone who took the time to drop in to make a donation to the Irish Cancer Society on daffodil day, which was held in St James’s Church in Streete recently. Her volunteer support group made everyone welcome with a nice cup of tea and as always some beautiful home-baked nice things on the day. Everyone has been touched by cancer at some time and sadly we have all lost loved one's Neighbours and friends. Thankfully your generosity and the €1093 raised will greatly help in the progress in the fight to save lives.

Property Marking Machine

I am delighted to report that Streete Parish Park will be the venue for the official launch of the Community Property Marking machine. I have been working on this project with Westmeath County Council PPN for several years and am delighted the machine has now been purchased, volunteers have been trained and that Streete Watch Community Alert group has been kindly chosen to launch the machine.

The Garda Crime Prevention Officer will be on hand to answer any questions and our trained volunteers will demonstrate how the machine works. This is another project which has been overseen by Westmeath County Council PPN and the Joint Policing Committee, in response to an identified need to find ways to prevent crime, especially theft in rural communities.

The machine stamps the owner’s Eircode into the item. Warning stickers and local signage are then used to draw the would-be thief’s attention to the fact that items are marked n the area. This type of machine has been used in other counties and has proved a great success in stopping thieves from targeting property. Gardai have noticed a huge reduction in stolen property in these areas.

It also makes it easier for gardai to reunite a person with their property if Gardai recover stolen goods, as the Eircode immediately links that item to where it came from. Items such as farm equipment, garage and garden tools, power tools, computers and electrical equipment, golf clubs, musical instruments bicycles, and much more can be marked.
