Streete & District Notes

Deepest sympathies

Deepest sympathies are expressed to the Farrell and Duke Family on the unexpected passing of Mary Farrell Russagh, Rathowen recently. Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband Billy and loving parents Michael and Alice Duke. Mary will be sadly missed by her daughter Bernadette, sons Michael and Patrick, son-in-law Jayson, daughter-in-law Clair and her three grandchildren Alexander, Alannah and Eilse, relatives, neighbours and friends. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Social Dance

Another sensational night of social dancing was held in Streete Parish Park on Friday night last. Brendan Jermyn played a range of great Irish and Country music to keep the dancers on the floor all night. Next month we have the first lady of country music all the way from Co, Roscommon, Carmel McLoughlin. Carmel has been with us many times before and supported Johnny Brady at our vintage show a few years ago. So tell all your friends and remember Next dance Friday, September 30th

Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers met at Stonepark near Longford on Sunday 21 August 2022 to walk from there to the Royal canal along the abandoned branch of canal which once linked Longford to the Royal Canal near Killashee. There was plenty of cool shade from the trees along the towpath on another hot summer day. There were also several new seats and a couple of new picnic tables in the peaceful scene at the junction of the two canals where the walkers were tempted to linger for a few minutes before heading back to Stonepark. Thank you to the Longford Ladies who led the walk.

On Sunday 4 September 2022 the Ramblers will meet in Ballinea for a walk along the Royal Canal towards Coolnahay and back. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet in Ballinea Car Park at 2pm.
If you would like to add a walk, new or old, to this year's Walks Calendar please contact Philip Epps.
See boherquillramblers.ie for more information.

Volunteers Needed

We are grateful to everyone who has offered to help out at our Bingo in the hall on Monday nights, starting back in September. We could do with a few more volunteers to get us up and running and will be in contact as soon as Stephen returns from his honeymoon to work out a rota to suit all. We depend greatly on our Bingo to keep our community centre open. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Call Kevin 087 1375222,

Back to School

We wish all the new and returning children in national and secondary schools a very happy return and all those who are taking up college or apprenticeships the very best in the future year. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
