On Sunday 12 June 2022 Marian Carty led the Ramblers on a walk at Lough Rynn. The loop walk was based on the old estate and passed some of the many cut-stone gate lodges and cottages including a large restored lime kiln, church and beautiful cottage at Farnaught. There was shelter from a couple of showers as the route followed roads through several wooded areas coloured by the rhododendrons in full bloom.
Unfortunately there were also signs of die-back in many ash trees. Thank you to Marian for leading such an interesting and informative walk. There will be no Ramblers walk on Sunday 26 June 2022 as Streete Parish Park's Annual Vintage Show is returning this year after missing two years due to the Covid pandemic. The Ramblers wish the Show Committee all the best and trust the show will be as successful as ever. If you would like to add a walk, new or old, to this year's Walks Calendar please contact Philip Epps. See boherquillramblers.ie for more information.

Sunday 5 June 2022 was part of a Bank Holiday weekend so a smaller than usual group of Ramblers met in Glasson for their Sunday walk. The early part of the walk was uphill but in compensation, there were fine views of the countryside towards Lough Ree. Further on the narrow road was bordered by banks of rhododendron in full flower with glimpses of uncut bog covered in white bog cotton. Towards the end of the loop walk, the bog had been cut, and there were large areas of machine-cut turf sods left out to dry.
Watertown House was another point of interest as the group passed between the ruins of the house and the stables near the end of the walk back in Glasson. The Ramblers will visit Longford Town for a canal walk on Sunday 19 June 2022. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet in Longford at 2pm in the car park behind the Dealz shop on Market Square. If you would like to add a walk, new or old, to this year's Walks Calendar please contact Philip Epps. See boherquillramblers.ie for more information.

Bingo Every Monday Night 8.30: Bingo is back in the hall every Monday night; we are still finding our way with the new Hybrid bingo system. This new blend of online bingo and hall bingo makes the game more accessible for all who enjoy playing the wonderful game. Covid provided many challenges for everyone and like many, we were forced to adapt and provide a solution that was accessible and easy to use for all our loyal supporters. To be fair to everyone the committee decided to introduce online bingo at the start of the Covid lockdown. To do this the Main jackpot was frozen and will remain so until we are satisfied that we can continue or not with both online and hall bingo, Jackpot number 2 has supported the online bingo throughout Covid, and we will continue to use this prize money in smaller jackpot prizes as we have been doing throughout the past two plus years or until it is won or runs out. We're proud to say that we were able to do this, and people could play the wonderful game of bingo from the comfort and safety of their own homes. The parish Park Committee prides itself on transparency, fairness and goodwill of its volunteers and we will continue to do so. We appreciate everyone who has supported us over the years and especially throughout the Pandemic. We hope to continue Bingo online and in the hall every Monday night. But as we have already emphasised if the demand for online drops off, we may consider coming offline as the costs are quite high. Anyone wishing to purchase books for online can do so in the usual way or pick up at the parish park on Fridays as you have been doing; So please spread the word we are back. If you have any queries or would like to discuss our Bingo, prize money or jackpots we are always willing to chat and find new ways to improve the wonderful game. I am delighted to report that Streete Parish Park will be the venue for the official launch of the Community Marking machine. I have been working on this project with Westmeath County Council for several years and am delighted that Streete Watch Community Alert group have been chosen to launch the machine. The Garda Crime Prevention Officer will be on hand to answer any questions and our trained volunteers will demonstrate how the machine works.
This is another project which has been overseen by Westmeath County Council PPN and the Joint Policing Committee, in response to an identified need to find ways to prevent crime, especially theft in rural communities. The machine stamps the owner’s Eircode into the item. Warning stickers and local signage are used to draw the thief’s attention to the fact that items are marked n the area to deter thieves from targeting property in the area.
It also makes it very simple to reunite a person with their property if the Gardai recover stolen goods, as the Eircode immediately links that item to where it came from. Items such as farm equipment, garage and garden tools, power tools, computers and electrical equipment, golf clubs, musical instruments bicycles, and much more can be marked.

The Ramblers met at Stonepark near Longford on Sunday 21 August 2022 to walk from there to the Royal canal along the abandoned branch of canal which once linked Longford to the Royal Canal near Killashee. There was plenty of cool shade from the trees along the towpath on another hot summer day. There were also several new seats and a couple of new picnic tables in the peaceful scene at the junction of the two canals where the walkers were tempted to linger for a few minutes before heading back to Stonepark. Thank you to the Longford Ladies who led the walk.
On Sunday 4 September 2022 the Ramblers will meet in Ballinea for a walk along the Royal Canal towards Coolnahay and back. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet in Ballinea Car Park at 2pm.

The Ramblers joined the large crowd who set out from Ringtown GAA Club for its Climb with Charlie walk on Sunday to head for the summit of Knockeyon where they were entertained with songs from Liam Fagan. The weather was perfect for the walk whose highlight was the wonderful views of Lough Derravaragh and the surrounding countryside.
