BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS: - The Ramblers met at Killasonna School on Sunday 9 September 2018 for a loop walk around the quiet country lanes in the direction of Abbeylara. Warm sunny periods alternated with cooler windy spells and just a little light rain so everyone enjoyed the walk and the usual refreshments back at the school.
On Sunday 23 September 2018 Oliver Usher will lead the Ramblers on a walk in Girley Bog near Kells with a new starting point for the walk. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at the church in Clonmellon at 2pm sharp before moving on to the bog.

5KRUN/walk: - the very popular 5k walk/run took place in the parish last Friday evening starting at 7p.m. More than sixty entries from various age groups took part. It was very encouraging to see so many young people involved. The main organiser was Parish Park Chairman, Declan Carthy assisted by Parish Park Development Officer, Kevin Brady. As always, the usual many volunteers looked after traffic control and safety along the route and the Chairman and committee greatly appreciate their professional help. Thanks to Tracey Carthy and Marie Campbell who looked after registrations at the event and Marion Denning and others who looked after refreshments in the Centre. As always, we say a special word of thanks to Lily Parker who looked after ticket sales for the raffle. A sincere thanks to those who donated prizes for the raffle as well as all who supported the vent by purchasing tickets. All proceeds from the run go towards the upkeep and improvements to the play area from which parents and children benefit.

DEATH: - we extend sincere sympathy on the death after a long life of Rose Farrell, nee O’Keefe Winetown, Rathowen, wife of the late James who died peacefully in Newbrook Nursing Home, Mullingar in her 94th year on Thursday, 6th September. She is survived by her sons, Dan and Jimmy, daughters, Mary McBennett, and Anne. She will be sadly missed by her family, her good friend, Paddy Byrne, son in law, daughter in law, grandchildren, her extended family and friends including the Taffe family. Her funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Rathowen on Sunday, 9th followed by her burial in Aughafin Cemetery, Edgeworthstown. May she rest in peace.
STREETE BOWLS: - It's the time of year when the Streete Bowls club return for a new season
of bowling and fun after the Summer break. The club will hold their AGM on
Tuesday night 11th September. Most of the players have returned to action
already. Thankfully Thomas Sullivan has made a good recovery following his
recent acccident. The club members would like to sympathise with Mick
Turner on the death of his father in law. May he rest in peace. New and
lapsed members are welcome.
BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS: - On Sunday 2 September 2018 the Ramblers met after their August break for a walk at Saints Island near Newtowncashel. Most of their 8km walk along the causeway and round the island on the shore of Lough Ree was completed in dry weather but there was a heavy shower at the end. However the Ramblers were fortified with plenty of vitamin C from the blackberries picked along the way.
The Ramblers will walk in Taghmon near Mullingar on Sunday 16 September 2018. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at Taghmon church at 2pm for a 7km loop walk on roads through Galmoylestown.

IRISH HEART FOUNDATION: - A very appreciative letter of gratitude was received from Mairead McMeel, Regional Manager of the Irish Heart Foundation to the organising committee of Streete Parish Park Vintage Day for, and I quote “our very generous donation towards this and in previous years to the Foundation”. As you know the Irish Heart Foundation seeks to affect positive change in the lifestyle of Irish people. To achieve better outcomes for those affected by heart disease and stroke and to challenge when the health of our nation is put at risk. “Thanks to your generosity, you help us to be the largest voluntary funder of heart and stroke research in Ireland. The money donated helps us run the largest national resuscitation training network in the country to save lives from cardiac arrest, and fund prevention programmes in communities, schools and workplaces benefit 1.2 million children and adults nationwide”. MOTOR NEURONS FOUNDATION: - on the same night as the above Streete Parish Park Vintage presented a similar cheque to the Irish Motor Neurones Foundation to help with their amazing support and their research. This cheque was presented by Chairman, Declan Carthy and accepted by Helena Kiernan on behalf of the foundation in memory of her late father, Luke Kiernan a founder member of Street Parish Park. A sincere thanks to all for continued support.
SYMPATHY: to Mrs. Dan McCarthy and family Galmoylestown, Mullingar whose husband, Dan passed away on Thursday, 23rd August. May he rest in peace. Dan was a long time President of the revised National Land League and later Chairman of the I.C.M.S.A. Dan also served as an elected member of Westmeath County Council for almost two decades. A great man for Rural Ireland and for County Westmeath. He was always willing to help Community Groups without having to be asked. He is survived by his wife, Anne, son Oliver, daughters Marguerite, Regina and Noleen. We offer our sympathy to Anne and the extended family. Dans funeral Mass and burial took place on Monday of last week in Taughmon.

Coolamber ICA
Following our summer break the monthly meetings of Coolamber ICA Guild will resume in Streete Parish Park on Wednesday 5th September at 8.00p.m. In mid-July the Guild had a very enjoyable outing to Powerscourt and Avoca. Now we look forward to a busy year ahead. As usual new members are very welcome to come along to our meetings. You may attend two meetings free of charge before becoming a member, so ladies think about it!

PRESENTATION of monies raised for charities by Streete Parish Park Vintage as part of their Annual Vintage Weekend takes place at a function in Feericks Hotel, Rathowen on next Fridaynight, August 24th when cheques will be presented to representatives of both The Irish Heart Foundation and the Motor Neurone Foundation. We hope for a good attendance on the night when a good nights craic and fun will take place in aid of these two charities, which mean a lot to this parish and our vintage members. Spot prizes for a raffle is welcome and can be left into the shop in Streete.
FAMILY RUN/WALK: Please note the annual 5k Road Run/Walk takes place from Streete Parish Park, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday 7th Sept. This event is suitable for all the family and will end with refreshments in the Parish Park Centre after. All are welcome to join in and the start will be 7 p.m. sharp. BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS: - The Ramblers walked the Westmeath Way from Jonathan Swift Park at Lilliput to Dysart on Sunday 15 July 2018 with a little light rain and a couple of over-grown stiles to add interest on the way. The road walk back to Lilliput was much easier; wild raspberries were picked and rain stopped before the cup of tea back near Lough Ennell.
James and Marita MacNerney have sent us the following directions for our last walk before the August break: Edenmore Bog walk on 29th July 2018. Meet on Drumlish road after petrol station at Red Cow roundabout, Longford at 1.30 pm. Drive through Drumlish to Gaigue crossroads and turn right for Ballinalee. At next crossroads turn left to Aughnacliffe and Glenview Lounge is a short distance up hill on the left. The walk will commence from there at 2.00 pm. There will be refreshments in the Glenview Lounge after the walk. The walk is approximately 9 km and is part road and on bog and forest passes. Please take special note of this earlier than usual start.

Boherquill Ramblers: - The Ramblers met in Ballinamuck on Sunday 8 July 2018 for a shorter walk than originally planned because of the expected very hot weather. The day turned out to be cooler than forecast and the new walk which followed quiet side roads was very pleasant. Marian Carthy, the leader for the day, had arranged a picnic near the end of the walk at Johnny's Cottage, a small thatched cottage and garden restored by the local community. Marian's fruit cake and apple tart went down very well with a cup of tea and an assortment of biscuits from other walkers. Many thanks to Marian for leading the walk and providing the goodies at Johnny's.
On Sunday 22 July the Ramblers will meet at Mary Lynch's pub just off the N4 near Mullingar for a walk beside the Royal Canal. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at Mary Lynch's at 2pm.

ST FINTAN'S CEMETERY BOHERQUILL: - On behalf of the committee of St Fintan's Cemetery we wish to thank everyone who had the cemetery looking clean and tidy for Cemetery Sunday, and for their contribution to the collection of €894.
STREETE WILDLIFE CLUB: - On Saturday, June 30th Streete shooting grounds hosted yet another very successful charity shoot. This was ran under the flag of the Irish Woodcock hunting Association of Ireland, The money raised on the day came to €1,479.80, and the charity chosen for this event was also the Irish Motor Neuron Association of Ireland .
The club would like to say well done to the members of the clay shooting team who represented their club in the All Ireland on Sunday July 8 in Ballinasloe shooting grounds, also to James Flynn and Shane Gettings who shot very well on Saturday in their trainee licensed division.

COLLECTION: - please note the Annual Church Gate Collection in aid of the Asthma Society of Ireland will take place in Boherquill on Saturday of next week, 21st July. Proceeds from this collection which covers Streete & Rathowen go towards maintaining the Asthma Advice line, Asthma Clinics, School talks etc. for the 470,000 people with asthma in Ireland, so your support will be greatly appreciated and of great help. The writer of these notes has received a Garda Permit for the collection and has been issued and received together with an acknowledgement for last year’s collection from Sarah O’Connor C.E.O. Asthma Ireland.
Boherquill Ramblers
The Ramblers did not walk on Sunday 1 July 2018 because of the very hot weather.
On Sunday 15 July the group will visit Lilliput beside Lough Ennell for a 10km road and cross-country walk. Boots should be worn as the ground will be rough in places and no dogs are allowed as farmland will be crossed. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at Jonathan Swift Park in Lilliput at 2pm.

The Ramblers walked from Mullingar to Lough Owel and back in superb Spring weather on Sunday March 20th. They were greeted at the Lough by a stunning scene of calm water dotted with anglers' boats and the nearby surrounding hills clearly in view. Thank you to Declan Leonard who led the very large group of walkers for the afternoon. The Ramblers will meet on Sunday April 3rd for an 8km road walk at Lough
Rynn near Drumlish in County Leitrim.
A bus will leave the car park beside the Fire Station in Mullingar at 11am. Please take special notice of the early start. Please bring a packed lunch and bus fare.
