Boherquill Ramblers: The Ramblers 2023 Christmas Dinner in the Castle Varagh Hotel in Castlepollard on Sunday 3 December 2023 was a very enjoyable occasion. After a walk to Tullynally Castle and back the group gathered in the Hotel to enjoy a couple of hours of good food and good company. Club Chair Eileen Moreton gave a brief address welcoming everyone and remembering Brian Nerney, the late President of the Club. Thank you to Mary McHugh, Nini Murray and Frances Coffey of the Ramblers who organized the Dinner and liaised with the Hotel. Thank you also to the staff of the Castle Varagh Hotel for the generous helpings of delicious food and the friendly service at the dinner. On Sunday 17 December 2023 the Ramblers will walk at Ballynafid. Cars will meet at 1pm in the new car park on the side road signed for Ballinafid Lake on the N4 opposite the Multyfarnham turn-off (The Covert). Boots are advised for this boardwalk and forest trail walk. If you would like to add a walk, new or old, to this year's Walks Calendar please contact Philip Epps. See boherquillramblers.ie for more information.
Streete Bowls: We played three of our Christmas doubles quarter finals last week. On mat one Liam Connaughton and Gerry McCaffrey just got the better of Sam Donaghy and Jimmy Kelly. On mat two Sean Flood and Tom Connell outscored Jimmy Leavy and Bill Bennett in a thriller. On mat three Enda Connell and Marie Delamere edged out Michael Gillen and Mary Smith in a very close contest. The fourth quarter final involving Michael Fleming and Jodie Devine versus Eamon Carthy and Paul Holroyd will be played this week. All club members would like to wish Mick McGuckian and Sam Donaghy a speedy recovery following their recent operations and we hope they will be back in action in the New Year. New and lapsed members are always welcome at the Streete Complex every Tuesday night at eight o'clock.
