Holly and hazel trees dominated the scene with crab apples and plenty of blackberry bushes. The weather was much better than forecast so the walk became a leisurely stroll with stops to enjoy the views out over the water before turning away from the Lough, past Portlick Scout Campsite and the entrance to Portlick Castle on the way back to the car park. All Ramblers are wished a happy and healthy August Break, the next walk will be on Sunday 3 September 2023. Recent Thunderstorm: I have been made aware and reported that some of our senior personal alarms may not be working due to the recent lightning strikes. This seems to have affected quite a few Senior Alert Monitors in our area. I ask that if you have a monitor you check to see if it's working properly. If you are unsure or need help please call me 087 1375222 and I will do my best to get it back working or replaced ASAP.

Recent Braevement: On behalf of the Committee of Streete Parish Park Vintage Club. We kindly pass on our sincere condolences to Dominic Egan and Family. We are all deeply saddened on hearing the sad news of Eamon Egan’s passing. Eamon and his family have been great supporters of our vintage show over the years. Our thoughts are with his family at this darkest hour. May his gentle soul rest in heavenly peace.
Heart Health: The Irish Heart Foundation’s Mobile Health Unit will be outside the Library in Granard on Wednesday 2nd August from 10 am – 2 pm. This is a great chance to pop in and have a little check-up free of charge. No booking necessary. It could save your life.
Bullock Missing: A farmer in the Clonca, Tinode area of the parish is appealing to his neighbouring farmers to check their fields and herd to see if they have one animal too many. The farmer reports that the Black and white Friesian, Simmental breed bullock, which has short horns has gone missing and was last seen about a month ago. The animal may have strayed to another farm, The farmer would like to rule out the possibility that the bullock has been stolen. The owner fears that the bullock may have got out of its field and been driven along the road by traffic as animals would normally return to a herd. There were 20 other cattle in the same field it went missing from. Gardai have been informed. Anyone with any information is asked to call the farmer on 086 8310574 or Edgeworthstown Gardai on 043 6671002

Your support means a great deal to us and without your help, it would not be possible to hold the event. As always we hold back a few plaques in case someone who would normally be with us could not attend. If you know of anyone who would like to have a plaque as a momentum, please let us know. We are extremely grateful for your time, help and support. Call kevin 087 1375222, or James 086 3125876

Active Retirement: Our full bus of eager beavers set off on Wednesday morning last for what turned out to be one of the most enjoyable trips in many years. The first stop was the National Museum of Ireland in Castlebar, Co, Mayo. On arrival, we welcomed a chance to relax and enjoy some lovely refreshments in the museum café, before a warm welcome from Barbra, the museum guide, who gave us the history of Turlough Park, once home of the Fitzgerald family, to whom the estate was granted under the Cromwellian land settlements of the mid-seventeenth century. After viewing the house we spent the morning exploring the wonderful exhibition floors of the museum, which are full of very interesting artefacts with the main focus on Irish folklore and country life throughout the ages. I recommend this museum to anyone looking for a great day out and one of The most interesting museums in Ireland. After working up a hunger we then moved on to our next stop, Ballina, where we enjoyed a beautiful lunch in the Merry Monk pub motel restaurant. The well-known owner, Joe Lavelle made us feel welcome and looked after us with fabulous food, we not only enjoyed the food but the quantity and excellent quality, with full bellies, we headed into Ballina town where the Salmon Festival takes place every year. this is one of the oldest fair days in Ireland. The Festival provides a Step back in time and allowed us to immerse ourselves in what a market town looked like over 100 years ago. The whole town centre was filled with shops and stallholders in traditional dress of the time. The festival celebrates the art of traditional handcrafts and memorabilia of the period, showcasing the skills of bygone years. With live music all day, a Big Ceili Marquee, Social Dancing, Pop Up drama acts, and plenty of traditional cooking on the streets, Time stood still for us with so much to see and do, which made it a day to remember and one we all agreed was worth the visit. Our next drop-in morning will decide our next adventure, but one thing is for sure it will be hard to better this day out, A big thank you to Garda Tom Blake and Mullingar Garda Station for the use of the Community bus, who supported us in making this day possible.
SOCIAL DANCING: A great night of Social Dancing will take place in The Parish Park on Friday, July 28th with the very popular Unity, so get your dancing shoes shined up for some lively dance and Jiveing.

Deeply regretted by his children Joseph, Fiona, Brian, Edward and Pauline, and his brothers Tom, Castlepollard, Dominic, Streete and Paddy Glanmore, Kenagh. We would like to thank everyone who came to the parish park after the blessing for a cup of tea and a chat, for many it was a chance to catch up on old times and reflect on the many family and friends who are no longer with us. A special word of thanks to the ladies who give their time to make everyone welcome and for baking the lovely homemade buns and Beautiful sandwiches.

BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS: The Ramblers Walking Festival was held from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 May 2023. About 45 walkers gathered in beautiful evening weather in Castlepollard on Friday evening for a 7km loop walk to Tullynally Castle, through the castle grounds and back to Castlepollard. The evening ended with tea and scones in the stylish surroundings of the Castle Varagh Hotel. Thank you to the owners and staff of the hotel and we wish them well in their new venture. There was a little drizzle in Fore on Sunday morning but it cleared as the walkers boarded the bus to the start of the main event of the weekend, a tough 21km walk from the Hill of Mael north of Castlepollard, through Ballymanus to Mullaghmeen Forest, past the White Lough and on over the Ben of Fore back into Fore village. Some walkers chose the 16km option which missed out the Hill of Mael but all of the day’s roughly 60 walkers agreed that the day was a great success.
Many thanks to Frank, John, Barry, Shea, David and Aoife Higgins who devised and guided the walk so well. Frank was also on hand with fruit, water and lifts back to base when needed. Thank you to Jane O'Reilly in Fore Abbey Coffee Shop whose endless pots of tea, cups of coffee and assorted goodies perked up everyone before and after the walk. Thanks also to Salmon’s Coaches who provided the bus. A special thank you to the landowners who gave access to their property on the day. On Sunday 28 May 2023, the Ramblers will meet in Fore to join an IFA Green Ribbon Walk aimed at raising awareness of suicide. Cars will meet in Fore at 2pm.
