Streete & District Notes

St James Church Notes, Streete, Morning Service will be held in Streete, Sunday 18th at 10.30 Am. Carols and evening family service will take place on December 18th at 4 pm in St Johns Church Edgeworthstown. The School Carol Service will take place in St Johns Church Edgeworthstown at 1 Pm all welcome. We remind you the annual Christmas lantern walk will take place on December 19th at 5 pm from St John’s Church Longford, through the Mall and Main St and conclude at the car park at the Methodist Church, Where we will sing carols and enjoy a friendly chat with some warm refreshment. Please bring your own Lantern. Everyone is invited and it would be lovely to see the community coming together at this special time of year. Please support.
Deepest sympathies: are extended to the Boyce family Lismacaffrey and the McIntyre family Granard on the passing of Dorrie McIntyre, nee O Connor Dorrie will be sadly missed by her loving husband Eamonn, son Edmund, daughters Jennifer, Anne-Marie and Lisa, extended family neighbours and friends. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

They also ask you to think twice before buying Christmas log candles from callers, these logs are unstable and can tip over easily with a lighted candle, which may cause harm or start a fire. Bingo Every Monday Night 8.30: Bingo is back in the hall every Monday night; We will announce our Christmas bingo specials soon. The new Hybrid bingo system is working out well and the response has been very positive all round, We have reintroduced the lucky number and free book draw on Monday nights and hope to make some more welcome changes in the new year. This new blend of online bingo and hall bingo makes the game more accessible for all who enjoy playing the wonderful game. So please spread the word we are back. And remember the more people play and support us the better the prize money gets. If you have any queries or would like to discuss our Bingo, prize money or jackpots we are always willing to chat and find new ways to improve the wonderful game. LOTTO & BINGO: We ask that you support our Lotto envelopes and our bingo. If you can sell a few envelopes to family and friends not alone, are you supporting our community centre, but you are also in with a chance to win almost €5000 in our fortnightly draw. Walking Track Membership: It's that time of year again. The Committee would like to thank everyone who paid for membership for the past number of years and would like to remind you that your membership is now due for renewal in January. New member application forms can be found in the entrance hall of the Parish Park or by calling into the office upstairs Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 10 am until 1.30 pm. Single membership is €20, and a family is €30. We also remind you this would make a great Christmas present to someone. Gift vouchers are available from the office. please ask any of the Committee or call Kevin 087 1375222. All cheques made payable to Streete Parish Park.
Active Retirement Meeting: A great turnout at our monthly meeting, held last Wednesday. this was the last meeting of the year and we chatted about the great adventures we had over the months. Several members are also going to the age-friendly event in Mullingar this week, we hope they enjoy the outing. We would like to thank Deirdre and Eilish who came along and gave a demonstration on pickleball. A huge interest was shown and we hope to have some morning sessions in the new year, anyone interested please make contact, Pickleball is a great exercise and requires no expertise to play. Our planned trip to the Abby Theater in January has had a great response. The play we are going to see is called the WEIR which won the Best New Play at its premiere night, so please, Call Kevin 087 1375222 or Mary 087 0695148 ASAP to book your place.
Fairy Light Tractor Run: The convoy will set off from Streete Parish Park around 6 p.m. participants will follow a speed-controlled management vehicle which set the pace along the well-organised 10 Km route before the incredible sight will make its way back to Streete Parish Park. The Streete Bowls Club: The Christmas Doubles competition has reached the semi-finals. The following couples will play off this week. Seamus Moran and Kevin Sheedy versus Micheál Fleming and Bill Bennett, Jimmy Kelly and Andy Boyle versus Micheál Gillen and Paul Flood. The members of the Bowls club would like to extend their heartfelt sympathy to the Keary and Tully families on the recent death of Bridie Walsh nee Keary. May she rest in peace. Join us on Tuesday nights in the Sports complex Streete for a great night's fun. New and lapsed members are very welcome to join the club. Bowls is a relaxing sport anyone can play, regardless of age or ability, we welcome interested people to come and watch the game at Streete Parish Park on Tuesday nights at 8 o'clock. Instructions for newcomers are given by experienced club members, all are welcome.

Weekly Offertory Collection Enveloplops: New boxes of offertory envelopes are currently being prepared and ready for collection in both churches. It is hoped every home in the parish will offer some weekly contributions to support the necessary repairs and upkeep of both churches in Rathowen and Boherquill. A sincere word of thanks to all who continue to support and help out throughout the year. Should any house be overlooked with envelopes please contact a Pastoral Council Member or Fr, Pierre on 087 6960542

Rosary continues: Rathowen, every Tuesday at 7 pm and Boherquill every Thursday at 7 Pm.
Men’s Prayer Group: Every Monday in the church in Boherquill at 8 pm. New participants are always most welcome to join us and receive the support of other men in their prayers and personal life. Please note: We had an extraordinarily great response to the men's retreat and day of reflection which will take place in the friary Multyfarnham on Saturday 10th December. Over 40 men ranging in age from 16 to 80 signed up. We hope to run more retreat days in the new year along with a retreat day for women. I ask you to pray for good intentions for friends and family over the festive season.
