Streete Notes 14th January 2024
Deepest Sympathies: On behalf of the Community and Committee of Streete Parish Park Vintage Club. We kindly pass on our sincere condolences to Shaun and Jessica Kavanagh, Kilasonna, on the sad and sudden passing of their dear parents, Paul, and Morag Kavanagh. Paul was a great supporter of our vintage show and helped in many ways over the years. The whole community are deeply saddened on hearing the very sad and tragic news. Our thoughts are with Shaun and Jessica and extended family at this darkest hour. May their gentle souls rest in heavenly peace.
The St. Brigid’s Cross: This famous cross is strongly associated with St. Brigid in Irish folk culture. Making the crosses from fresh rushes and other materials such as straw, was a widely practiced tradition throughout many parts of Ireland for centuries. The crosses were hung up in houses and often in stables to honor the saint and gain her protection. The crosses were believed to have great powers of protection against fire, storm and lightning and against illness and infectious diseases. It was also believed that evil spirits could not enter the house where it hung near the door. Fr Pierre invites you to come along to Boherquill Church on Monday 29th at 7.30 Pm to see how the cross is made. All you need is to bring some rushes with you and some small elastic bands. A great opportunity to take part in the age-old tradition and make your own cross in time for February 1st St Bridget’s day.

Deepest Sympathies: On behalf of the Committee of Streete Parish Park Vintage Club. We kindly pass on our sincere condolences to Tom Price Ballynacargy and the entire Price Family. We are deeply saddened on hearing the sad news of Mick’s untimely passing. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this darkest hour. May his gentle soul rest in heavenly peace.
