Paula 087 9680739 or Kevin 087 1375222 Remember, Carbon monoxide poisoning is a silent killer and occur more often during the winter, when people are more likely to use gas heaters, and solid fuel fires. Smoke alarms save lives by alerting people of a possible fire early. If either Alarms go off, you should immediately leave your home and call 999
St. Brigid’s Cross: This famous cross is strongly associated with St. Brigid in Irish folk culture. Making the crosses from fresh rushes and other materials such as straw, was a widely practiced tradition throughout many parts of Ireland for centuries. The crosses were hung up in houses and often in stables to honor the saint and gain her protection. The crosses were believed to have great powers of protection against fire, storm and lightning and against illness and infectious diseases. It was also believed that evil spirits could not enter the house where it hung near the door. Fr Pierre invites you to come along to Boherquill Church on Monday 29th at 7.30 Pm to see how the cross is made. All you need is to bring some rushes with you and some small elastic bands. A great opportunity to take part in the age-old tradition and make your own cross in time for February 1st St Bridget’s day.

Walk: The New Year Family 5k Fun Walk will be held at Streete Parish Park on Sunday the 28th of January in aid of Edgeworthstown Branch of St. Christopher’s. The family walk will leave Streete Parish Park at 2pm sharp. Refreshments will be available on return in Streete Parish Park. Boherquill Ramblers: The Ramblers met at Bellview in Mullingar on Sunday 14 January 2024 for a walk along the feeder waterway out to Lough Owel and back again. Lots of swans had moved into the sheltered stretch of water for the winter and last year’s cygnets had gathered together, maybe getting ready to move on, away from their parents. There was bright sunshine out at Lough Owel but the cold wind didn’t encourage standing to enjoy the view for too long.
On Sunday 28 January 2024 the Ramblers will meet at 2pm at Streete Parish Park to join a walk to raise funds for St Christopher’s Services for the Intellectually Disabled, a very deserving cause. There will be refreshments and a raffle after the walk. Please take note of this later than usual starting time. The Ramblers 2024 AGM will be held on Sunday 25 February at Streete Parish Park. Details will follow later. If you would like to add a walk, new or old, to the Walks Calendar please contact Philip Epps. See boherquillramblers.ie for more information.
